The book is the result of specific investigations carried out by scholars who have been engaged for some time in studying the various issues addressed. It represents an updated overview of the figure of Francesco di Marco Datini as a man and as a merchant. Through the internal history of his system of companies and analysis of the historical debate of recent decades, the book reconstructs various fundamental aspects of the economy of the time. It proposes a rereading of the mentality of Tuscan merchants and the instruments adopted by them in the years around the turn of the fifteenth century. The book offers new elements and cues for reflection on the life of Francesco Datini, his family relations, his concept of wealth and the construction of the palazzo.
