This volume analyses land fragmentation in marginal areas, an obstacle that hinders access to land and the recovery of abandoned properties. The authors review land tenure regimes in inland areas, legal and fiscal frameworks, the role of the cadastre, and institutional solutions to fragmentation. The empirical part of the study focuses on an inland area of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, comparing current land structures with those of 1947 and 1931, revealing increased land fragmentation, decreased ownership concentration, and persistent territorial differences. Finally, the need for new strategies to manage natural capital and foster the development of inland areas is highlighted.
