The volume is a valuable contribution that the Italian TC4.2 Committee “Interazione strada/veicolo” (Road/vehicle interaction) has provided to the activities of International Committee TC4.2 and, at the same time, represents a valid tool of practical application for all those who intend to develop a system monitoring the characteristics and actions of vehicular traffic. A unique document of its kind in the national scientific literature and of which the need is deeply felt in a field, such as that of monitoring, where the techniques are many and the potential and limitations of the various technological solutions are not always clear to the end user. The volume analyses the different characteristics and actions of the traffic to be monitored for a correct design and maintenance of road pavements and takes into account possible ways of monitoring, from the simplest and most traditional to the most innovative ones.
