The volume, published in honour of Filippo Boschi, consists of an introduction and sixteen contributions reporting studies and research by authors from various Italian Universities, including Florence, Padua, Rome, Trieste, often in collaboration with groups of scholars of prestigious foreign Universities. The volume therefore presents some of the most up-to-date scientific achievements on the psychology of reading in particular and on cognitive and linguistic development in general, and is intended not only for specialists and experts of the sector, but also for university students engaged in the study of developmental psychology and education.

Luigi Aprile has obtained the title of Doctor of Research (PhD) in "Psychology: developmental processes and socialization" at the University of Florence in 1993. In the same year, he won the competition for Researcher at the University “L’Orientale” (IUO) in Naples. Since 1997 he is an Adjunct Professor of Developmental Psychology and Educational Psychology at the Department of Education of the University of Florence. At the time of its constitution (November 2002) he became member of the Department of Psychology of the University of Florence while maintaining his teaching positions at the Department of Education. Among his works, in addition to articles published in specialised journals, he counts several volumes published by Giuffrè Editions of Milan, Giunti of Florence and Organizzazioni Speciali OS of Florence especially on topics related to psychological development and language. A Manual of Educational Psychology is in course of publication for Piccin Publisher of Padua.
