The Liber doctorum, preserved in the Archiepiscopal Archives of Siena and published here, presents a systematic record documenting the life of the university from 1579 to 1588. This complete edition of the register enables us to reconstruct the geographical origins of the candidates, their intellectual and political connections, and the academic mobility linking Siena to other Italian and European university. The high proportion of law graduates and the significant number of candidates from central Italy, Sicily, and the German-speaking world emphasise the university’s legal focus and clarify its position within the academic landscape of the late sixteenth century. Finally, the recorded degrees reveal the hierarchies and interests that shaped the academic landscape of Siena and Italy.
