AKROTHINIA 2

Contributi di giovani ricercatori agli studi egei e ciprioti
  • Edited by:
  • Maria Emanuela Alberti,
  • Anna Margherita Jasink,

Akrothinia 2 presents itself as a sequel to Akrothinia, which appeared three years ago in this same series, and aims at providing an overview of the research young scholars carried out in the field of Prehistory and Protohistory of the Aegean Sea area. Compared to the previous volume, there is the new inclusion of some essays by young foreign scholars, who have spent periods of study at Italian institutes during their preparation, thus creating an international link from the beginning of their scientific activity. It is now increasingly clear that Aegean studies, mainly focused on the two great Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations, represent a junction point between the general pre-classical Mediterranean world and the subsequent Greek one.

Anna Margherita Jasink, former professor of Aegean Civilization at the University of Florence, has dedicated her studies to philological and historical issues related to the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean areas, in a time span between the second and the first half of the first millennium BC. The study of written documents was accompanied by constant attention to archaeological documentation. She is the author of six monographs and about a hundred articles, as well as editor and reviewer of several other pieces. She has directed and still directs a number of research projects, including two of IT nature (DBAS and MUSINT), connected to the themes defined as Cultural Heritage.
Maria Emanuela Alberti is Professor of Aegean Civilization at the University of Florence and has previously carried out study and research activities in various Italian and European centres, also thanks to a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship in the UK. Her research covers different aspects of the economic life of the Aegean societies of the third and second millennia BC. She has worked in several areas of Greece, where she still does field work, and collaborates with a number of Italian and international protection and research institutes. She is the author of two volumes and about forty scientific articles, and editor of the papers of two international discussions.
