The book explores the debate on gender equality in the language that emerged since the end of the 1980s, when Alma Sabatini highlighted the androcentric character of Italian in the linguistic choices of speakers. Today, as then, to ensure equal visibility for genders, it is a matter of respecting the ‘normal’ grammatical rules of language. The volume collects reflections of linguists inviting to develop in training contexts a greater sensitivity to the principle of equality between the genders, presenting examples of good and bad practices in public communication, pedagogic and didactic. The aim of this book is to highlight the importance of forging a deal within the community of speakers in order to affirm the equal dignity of the genders through language choices.

Elisabetta Jafrancesco has a degree in Romance Philology and a PhD in Linguistics and Didactics of the Italian language. He is a teacher of Italian L2 at the University of Florence. She carries out research in the field of language and is the author of scientific publications on these subjects.

Ivana Fratter has a degree in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures and a PhD in Linguistics. She is a teacher of Italian L2 at University of Padua and professional counsellor in the socio-educational field. She is involved in research on language and she published books on these topics.

Ida Tucci has a degree in Humanities and a PhD in Italian Linguistics. She is a teacher of Italian L2 (University of Florence). She was a researcher at the LABLITA-UNIFI and she participated in national and international projects dedicated to the syntactic, semantic and prosodic analysis of Italian.
