The biography and work of Ferdinando Zannetti, doctor, surgeon, politician, great figure of the 19th century in Tuscany, acquire new significance thanks to the ordering and inventorying of the papers of his archive. The history of medicine and surgery of this period is enriched with new data, allowing us to have an insight on the daily life of the practice of the profession; the history of the Risorgimento becomes accessible through the testimony of Zannetti, military doctor, organizer of the health service during the Wars of Independence; the political life of Florence and Tuscany are relived within the framework of the laborious constitution of the new state.
