The Historic Collection of Drugs of the University of Florence

The is a photographic repertoire accompanied by texts in Italian and English of the collection of drugs and herbal drugs of the historical collections of the departments of Pharmacology and Plant Biology of the University of Florence. The collection includes drugs of historical interest that are still important (quinine, digitalis, aspirin, etc.), in addition to others fallen into disuse due to low activity or high toxicity and is an interesting example of the variations in medical therapy during the 20th century. The photographic images highlight the high artistic quality of glass containers and labels and underline the museum, as well as scientific, value of the collections.

Piero Dolara , teaches Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Florence. His research activity concerns issues of environmental toxicology and carcinogenesis. He has published two textbooks (Experimental Methods in Pharmacology and Toxicology, General and Environmental Toxicology) and numerous articles in international scientific journals, including Science, Nature, Cancer Research, J. Nutrition, Carcinogenesis. Graziana Fiorini , holds the role of Technical Officer in the Laboratory of Systematic Botany at the Department of Plant Biology, of the University of Florence, where she collaborates in biosystematics research on Italian and Mediterranean Flora. She takes care of the Department's museum collections. She is the author of several scientific papers published on Italian and international journals.
