AKROTHINIA

Contributi di giovani ricercatori italiani agli studi egei e ciprioti

Akrothinia collects the contributions of twenty-three young scholars, with the aim of creating an overall picture of the lines of investigation and of the interests which, in recent years, have animated research in the field of Prehistory and Protohistory of the Aegean area, as seen from the perspective of 'pupils', not of 'masters'. The broad horizon of archaeological and philological themes, as well as the new insights which can be noticed in the works of this volume, clearly demonstrate the liveliness and, at the same time, the value of the tradition of Aegean studies in Italy. In this sense, the common thread linking all the contributions is, on one hand, the balance between the value recognized by the authors and the long tradition of Italian studies and, on the other, the positive interest in projects used as a test for the ability to identify new prospects for investigation.

Anna Margherita Jasink is Professor of Aegean Civilization at the University of Florence. She is the author of six monographs and about a hundred scientific articles. Her research approach is scientific and interdisciplinary. She focuses especially on the philology and history of the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean areas, in a time span between the second and the first half of the first millennium BC. The analysis of the written documents - Hittites, neo-Hittites, Minoans, Mycenaeans and Cypriots - is accompanied by a constant attention to archaeological documentation. These are both essential approaches for a historical reconstruction of consistent credibility.
Luca Bombardieri is a researcher at the University of Turin, where he teaches Aegean and Cypriot Archaeology at the Department of Humanities. He is the scientific director of the archaeological research project and director of the Italian Archaeological Mission in Erimi (Cyprus), in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus. He participated and coordinated field surveys and excavation projects in Syria and Cyprus. He has dealt in particular with aspects of the ideology and social organisation of protohistoric communities in Cyprus. He is also the author of contributions dedicated to the modern reception and collecting of Aegean and Cypriot antiquities.
