Max Weber never developed a comprehensive theory of political revolution. Yet, his work is scattered with references to revolutionary actors: religious fanatics, diehard idealists, anarcho-insurrectionists, successful people’s leaders. Figures who set themselves against the world with violence, in order to achieve justice on earth or bear witness to their principles. Although intermittent, Weberian reflection on revolutionary subjectivity questions the relationships between politics, ethics and violence in a novel combination. This volume delves into Weber’s accurate and fascinating frescoes of the subjective paths that lead to an attitude of world revolution; and, it introduces an unusual portrait of the German sociologist, in partial contrast to the famous representation of the bourgeois with class consciousness.
