José Cardoso Pires (1925-1998) has been an important writer of the second half of the 20th century and author of a wide literary work (novels, fiction, plays) partially translated in Italian language. Cardoso Pires has been a keen observer of the Portuguese society and its changes during the Salazar’s dictatorship as well socially active against any sort of repression. His fiction work experiences the neorealist echoes and the influences between literature and daily life, also in his linguistic style. The short stories collection Histórias de amor / Storie d’amore presented in this volume for the first time in Italian translation, aims to contribute to spreading the Cardoso Pires’ fiction work in Italy.
